Bo Ni.
The person behind GenMech Lab.
Mechanical engineering, materials science, and AI. A scientific vision built across these fields.
Bo Ni, Ph.D.
I am a postdoctoral researcher in Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. My background in solid mechanics informs my work on material failure, protein mechanics, generative materials design, and scientific agents.
My research connects physical modeling with generative learning to explore how structures, sequences, and compositions give rise to behavior. Published work spans fracture and toughening in two-dimensional materials, protein design, and additively manufacturable alloys.
GenMech Lab is my personal research initiative and the home of the Generative Mechanics program I am developing: a personal agenda for new sciences at the meeting of matter, making, and mind. Understanding develops through prediction, design, realization, and reflection on the process of discovery itself.
